How it works
Focus the tap button and use Space, Enter or pointer clicks on the beat. The median of recent intervals reduces the effect of one late tap. A pause over five seconds starts again.
Worked example
A 500 ms interval is 120 BPM; 750 ms is 80 BPM. The half/double readings help interpret a groove without changing the music.
Read the result
A tap estimate measures your timing. It is useful when a detector follows the wrong rhythmic layer, but it is only as stable as the taps and the performance. The displayed half/double values help choose the musical beat rather than prescribing a tempo.
Common mistakes
Tap the same beat division consistently; switching from quarter notes to eighth notes changes the answer. Start again after a long pause. Do not use the number as proof of a rigid tempo when the performance intentionally speeds up or slows down.
Questions musicians ask
How does tap tempo work?
The tool records intervals between taps and converts their typical duration into beats per minute. MixGlint uses the median of recent intervals so one late tap has less influence than it would on a simple average.
How to calculate BPM of a song?
For a steady beat, BPM is 60 divided by the beat interval in seconds. A 0.5-second interval is 120 BPM and a 0.75-second interval is 80 BPM. These are arithmetic examples, not measured claims about your song.
What is half time in music?
Half-time feel places the main pulse or backbeat at a slower perceived rate while the underlying subdivisions can continue. If a tap gives 120 BPM, the 60 BPM reading may better describe the feel you intend. Listen to the arrangement.
